In terms of life force there is an interesting connection between expression and depression.

The word ‘press’ is at the heart of the word ‘express’ which indicates that life force is moving (to press = to move).

The life force is always moving, even in depression. At the heart of the word ‘depressed’ is also the word ‘press’.

The difference is that when we are depressed the life force is turned inward against ourselves, and in a case when we express ourselves life force moves out into the world.

The important point is that we cannot express and depress at the same time.

In therapy we look at depression as a signal that we need to change something in our lives, or to find areas of interest and a ways to express ourselves.
